Primož Premzl (Maribor, 12 June 1963), publisher, antiquarian, gallerist, publicist, and
tireless collector of Maribor local history material. He completed his post-secondary
education in 1986 at the Maribor Faculty of Education’s Department of Physics. He
established his publishing and gallery business in 1992. He has edited and published 65
books on art history, history, and ethnology to date.
His efforts have earned him multiple awards and recognitions. The Schwentner Award for
Lifetime Achievement in publishing was given to him in 2020. His outstanding contributions
to the cultural field earned him the Glazer Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2023. The
award’s rationale reads:
For many years, Primož Premzl has been a prominent figure in Maribor and Slovenian culture. His remarkable activity spans many domains, with publishing serving as the main axis. Because Premzl was always able to determine which publishing decisions have a cultural-historical character and what, in this sense, is decisive for the strengthening of sovereign life in the national and international community, his work for the cultural and spiritual space of Maribor and Slovenia is invaluable in this regard. Also because he skilfully conveyed Maribor’s distinctive qualities in the highly demanding cultural sphere of today. In addition, it is important to recognise his talent, commitment, and his inherent enthusiasm, all of which were essential in enabling him to create an incredibly expansive body of work.
